Nanogate AG awarded international prize by NASA

Dotfarm®-Optics receives the Nano 50 Award

Saarbrücken/Germany, July 15th 2008. NASA has commended the Dotfarm®-Optics technology developed by Nanogate AG with the international Nano 50 Award by NASA in the “Technologies” category. The technology uses nanostructures as a basis for extremely efficient light guiding, enabling LEDs to be made much more powerful, for example. The Saarbrücken-based firm is the first German company to be awarded this coveted prize. The award ceremony will be held on 12th and 13th of November during the NASA Tech Briefs National Nano Engineering Conference in Boston. This is the fourth time the prize has been awarded.

The awards commend a total of 50 companies in the three categories of “Technologies”, “Products”, and “Innovators”. These are today’s and tomorrow’s most influential nanotechnology firms worldwide. Nano 50 Award winners are considered the best of the best in their specific field of nanotechnology. In the coming years, they are expected to have a long-term impact on the development of nanotechnology and the way in which it influences key markets.

Nanogate AG is the first German company to receive this American award in the “Technologies” category. “We are proud that the prominent jury commended our unique technology,” says Ralf Zastrau, Chairman of the Management Board at Nanogate AG. “After winning a number of prizes such as the valuable STEP Award last year, this is another accolade for our company – this time, at an international level.” Nanogate also sees the award as confirmation that it has adopted the right strategy for the US market and expects the prize to have a positive effect on its further market cultivation.

With the prize, the jury commended the high degree of innovation behind Dotfarm®-Optics. The technology can be used in displays, but also has huge potential in central lighting system applications using LEDs. In such cases, the technology platform primarily ensures that energy is used much more efficiently. “We are convinced that economic potential is not the only factor for the future of nanotechnology – solving environmental issues and conserving resources are also hugely important. With its strategy and its existing products, Nanogate is in an excellent position to meet these demands,” explains Ralf Zastrau.
